Yellow fever is a mosquito-borne viral infection found in parts of tropical Africa and Central and South America. Vaccination and careful bite avoidance are the main ways travellers can reduce their risk.
Do I need a yellow fever vaccine?
That depends on where you are going, the places you will pass through, your activities and your health. A country may have a vaccination recommendation because of disease risk, an entry requirement, or both. These are checked separately during a personalised assessment.
When is a yellow fever certificate needed?
Some countries ask for an International Certificate of Vaccination or Prophylaxis, particularly when a traveller arrives from or transits through a yellow fever risk area. Requirements can change, so every destination and stopover should be checked before departure.
What should I bring to the appointment?
- Your complete itinerary, including stopovers and border crossings
- Previous vaccination records and any existing yellow fever certificate
- A list of medicines, allergies and relevant health conditions
- Your departure date and planned activities
Why is a personal assessment important?
Yellow fever is a live vaccine and is not suitable for everyone. A registered Yellow Fever Vaccination Centre must consider the benefit and risk for you personally. Burton Travel Clinic can assess your itinerary and suitability, then explain the certificate requirements that apply to your journey.
